The harbor hasn't seen anything like this since 1976, when gas was 62 cents a gallon and America was turning 200. On July 4th, more than 48 tall ships and dozens of naval vessels from 20 nations will make their way from the Verrazzano Bridge, past the Statue of Liberty, and upriver past Pier 81. Participating ships and crews represent countries including the United States, France, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Colombia, and many more. Pier 81 sits directly on that route, close enough to the water that you'll read the names off the hulls as they pass.
The Easiest Way to See It
